Description

Caterpillar 249D compact track loader tracks are a critical factor in preserving its lifting power, ground stability, and travel speeds. When operating this heavier vertical-lift machine through deep dirt, rough jobsite debris, or on hard pavement, standard aftermarket options often suffer from rapid tread wear and premature deterioration. Our replacement rubber tracks are a direct fit, engineered to handle this nimble, heavy-lifting machine and minimize unexpected jobsite downtime.

Our tracks feature deep tread depth and thick cut-resistant rubber to prevent tearing. The internal drive links are precisely spaced to align with your CAT undercarriage, giving you a smoother ride and reducing cab vibration.

Rubber Track Manufacturing & Materials

Our rubber tracks for the Caterpillar 249D are built to strict manufacturing standards that surpass standard aftermarket alternatives. Here are a few key features in our manufacturing:

  • Continuous Steel Cable: Most standard tracks fail at the seams where those overlapping joints are inside the rubber. Our tracks use a single strand of high-tensile steel cable, wrapped continuously edge-to-edge with no breaks or weak spots. By eliminating those internal seams, you get a track that holds together under max load and real pressure.
  • Forged Iron Links: Every internal link insert is manufactured from forged iron. This ensures proper alignment with the equipment’s sprocket teeth, lowering the risk of throwing a track on uneven and steep slopes.
  • Durable Natural Rubber: Our tracks use a heavy-duty natural rubber compound to withstand rough job-site conditions. This rubber compound helps prevent the track from cracking on rough terrain or from dry-rotting due to a lot of direct sunlight.

Track Width Selection Guide

The CAT 249D frame has two track width options; choose from below depending on your daily operating jobs:

  • 320mm (Standard 13-Inch): Built for general construction, working around concrete, and tight jobsites. Running a narrower 320mm width means you aren’t spreading the machine’s weight out. It puts more pressure (~5.6 psi) directly under the lugs so they can dig into hard gravel, packed dirt, or ice.
  • 400mm (Wide 16-Inch): Spreads the loader’s 7,685-pound operating weight over a larger surface area to drop ground pressure to roughly 4.6 psi. This provides maximum flotation on soft mud, clay, and sand. Wider options reduce ground disturbance to turf or residential lawns.

Our replacement Cat 249D rubber tracks are manufactured to directly replace OEM factory part numbers: 545-6420, 561-5496, 592-5444, 420-9892, 607-4800, 607-4799, 608-7326, 545-6421, 592-5830, and 592-5829.

Cat 249D Rubber Track Tread Options

Choosing the right tread design is just as critical as choosing your track width. If your machine spends all day on hot pavement doing vertical-lift dump loading, you need a completely different setup than an operator who runs their loader in deep mud or wet clay. We stock a few distinct tread pattern options for the Cat 249D to match your specific jobsite environments:

Undercarriage Fitment Guide

Installing brand-new tracks on severely worn sprockets, rollers, or idlers accelerates track wear and causes tooth skipping. Prior to mounting your new rubber tracks, always inspect your matching CAT 249D undercarriage components:

  • Drive Sprockets: Check for thin or pointed teeth. Worn teeth will grind away the rubber coating on the internal iron links of your track.
  • Front & Rear Idlers: Ensure they spin freely and are not grooved out, which ruins track alignment and correct tensioning.
  • Track Rollers: Inspect bottom rollers for flat spots, seized bearings, or oil leaks. Faulty rollers can cause premature cracking and wear to the rubber compound around the track guides.

Shipping, Warranty, and Specialist Support

With over 19 US warehouses, we ship directly from our closest regional warehouse to your location. Most orders deliver in 1 to 2 business days so you can get your track loader back to work.

  • Warranty Details: Our skid steer tracks are backed by a 24-Month or 1,200-Hour pro-rated warranty protecting against any manufacturing defects.

Rubber Track Maintenance

To maximize the service life of your new premium rubber tracks and prevent unexpected job site downtime, follow these essential manufacturer care tips:
  • Maintain Correct Tension: Never “eyeball” your track sag. Over-tightening robs horsepower, strains drive bearings, and can snap internal steel cables. Under-tightening causes detracking, which instantly destroys the track’s internal drive lugs. Check your operator’s manual for exact sag tolerances.
  • Daily End-of-Shift Cleanouts: Use a spade or pressure washer to clear mud, clay, and gravel from the undercarriage frames daily. Packed debris hardens overnight, acting like heavy-grit sandpaper that grinds down rubberized surfaces and seizes bottom rollers.
  • Inspect Sprockets & Rollers: Never install a brand-new rubber track on a worn-out undercarriage. Sharp or “shark-toothed” sprockets will actively gouge and tear out your new track’s drive lugs. Ensure bottom rollers spin freely and check idlers for rough rims or bad bearings.
  • Practice Smart Operating Habits: Avoid high-speed, 90-degree pivot turns on concrete or asphalt to prevent severe tread scalloping (especially if not using a block tread). Always approach curbs straight-on (perpendicularly) and travel straight up or down grades—never sideways—to prevent edge slicing and derailment.
